Udaipur or the City of Sunrise, was the glorious capital of the erstwhile kingdom of Mewar. Mewar has the honor of being one of the oldest surviving dynasties in the world. The city of Udaipur was established around 1567 AD. While on tour of Udaipur, you will come across several historic yet interesting buildings to visit in Udaipur.
The most remarkable building of Udaipur is the City Palace built in 1567 AD. It is right on the banks of Lake Pichola. There are 4 major palaces and several minor palaces within the City Palace. The noteworthy things at the place complex are the Tripolia Gate, Rai Angaan or the Royal Courtyard and Mor Chowk or the Peacock Courtyard. Lake Pichola is the famous lake of Udaipur. The surrounding hills, palaces, temples, bathing ghats and embankments add to the beauty of the lake. The two islands on the lake are the Jag Niwas and the Jag Mandir.

The Sajjan Garh or the Monsoon Palace is perched on the top of a hill commanding a delightful view of the Lake Pichola. Maharana Sajjan Singh built the building during late 19th century to use it as an observatory. Besides the view of the lake, you can get the vies of the city with the surrounding lakes, rivers and Aravali ranges.
Sahelion ki Bari is a garden built at the orders of Maharana Sangram Singh for his daughter and her friends to recreate the season of spring for his daughter. She had been ill for a long time and missed out the spring season. The garden is laced with several fountains and four pools. They are decorated with well-defined pavilions and elephants. The fountains still work on the unique hydraulic system devised in 1700 AD.
The other interesting places to visit while on tour to Udaipur are Ahar, a prehistoric archaeological site, Fateh Sagar Lake, Jagdish Temple and Shilpagram.
