 The Palace On Wheels, the most prestigious and luxurious train of India and probably the world, is modeled on the lines of beautiful and magnificent palaces of the erstwhile kings and Maharajas of India. The train is loaded with royal comforts beautifully blended with modern amenities. The train takes you to some of the most fascinating tourist destinations of Rajasthan and Agra, the city of Taj, in the Indian state of Utter Pradesh.
The itinerary of Palace on Wheels includes 7 Nights/8 Days of a royal splendor. The train starts its journey from Delhi Cantonment Railway Station on every Wednesday during September to April. As the train requires lot of renovations to maintain its charm, it doesn't operate between May- August.
Day 01 - Wednesday - Delhi
The Palace On Wheels leaves Delhi Cantonment Railway Station at 17.45 hrs, where they get a warm and traditional reception. Dinner is served onboard at 20.00 hrs. Overnight stay on the train.
Day 02 - Thursday - Jaipur
Arrival: 02.00 hrs. Departure 19.30 hrs
You are greeted with a shehnai recitation and herds of elephants wearing colors on your arrival at the pink city of Jaipur. After lunch at the famous Rambagh Palace Hotel, you visit Hawa Mahal, the Jantar Mantar, and Amber fort among many other attractions. Return back and board your train. Enjoy your dinner on board the train.
Day 03 - Friday - Jaisalmer
Arrival: 08.15 hrs. Departure 23.00 hrs
Jaisalmer is famous for its golden fort and beautiful and exotic sand dunes. On your arrival at Jaisalmer, you visit the famous Havelis (mansions) such as Patwon ki haveli and Nathmalji ki haveli. Thereafter get a unique experience of a camel safari in the exotic sand dunes of the Thar. Enjoy your dinner on the safari dunes under the moonlit sky. Also enjoy colorful cultural programs at a hotel in Jaisalmer.
Day 04 - Saturday - Jodhpur
Arrival: 07.00 hrs. Departure 15.30 hrs
Arrival at Jodhpur, the second largest city of Rajasthan. Known for its strong fortification, the city has a long high wall with seven gates and several fortresses. While at Jodhpur, visit the famous Mehrangarh Fort, Moti Mahal, Sheesh Mahal, Phool Mahal, Sileh Khana and Daulat Khana. Enjoy your dinner at majestic Umaid Bhawan Palace. Return back to train for your onward journey.
Day 05 - Sunday - Sawai Madhopur
Arrival: 04.00 hrs. Departure: 10.30 Hrs
Sawai Madhopur is known for its world famous Ranthambore National Park, known for its Royal Bengal Tiger population. Enjoy a Jeep safari and explore the flora and fauna of the park. If you are lucky, you can spot a tiger in his own habitat. Other wildlife commonly seen here are chital, deer, monkeys to name a few with. Later enjoy a visit to the Ranthambore Fort. Return back to board your train.
Chittorgarh
Arrival: 15.30 Hrs
Chittorgarh is famous as the city of bravery and romance. Many heroic stories and legends are associated with this majestic city of Rajasthan. Here you can visit the famous 7th century Chittorgarh Fort, Vijay Stambh (Tower of Victory) and the Kirti Stambh (Tower of Fame).
Day 06 -Monday - Udaipur
Arrival: 15.30 hrs
Udaipur is known as the city of lakes as it houses various beautiful lakes. While at Udaipur visit the Jag Niwas (Lake Palace) and the Jag Mandir, which appear to rise from the blue waters of Lake Pichola. Later, enjoy your lunch at the Lake Palace Hotel.
Day 07 - Tuesday - Bharatpur
Arrival: 06.30 hrs. Departure 11.45 hrs
Early morning arrival at Bharatpur. After breakfast, visit the famous Bharatpur Bird Sanctuary (Keoladeo Ghana National Park) known of its wide variety of exotic and colorful birds. Here you can also spot some of the migratory birds such as the famous Siberian Cranes. Return back to your train for onward destination.
Day 07 - Tuesday - Agra
Arrival - 14.30 Hrs
Welcome to Agra, the city of Taj. On your arrival at Agra you are transferred to a hotel for lunch. After the lunch, visit the Taj Mahal, the most beautiful monument in the world built by the Mughal emperor Shah Jahan, as a symbol of love and romance for his beloved wife Mumtaz Mahal.
Day 08 - Wednesday - Delhi
Arrival - 06.00 hrs
Enjoy your dinner on board the train as it starts its return journey to Delhi. The train arrives at Delhi Cantonment Railway Station in the morning. Enjoy your breakfast on board the train and leave the train with many delightful memories.
